A Taste of Stockholm is an early summer festival that each year attracts hundreds of thousands of people with a shared interest in food and drink. During the first week of June the downtown park Kungsträdgården, or ”King’s Garden”, is transformed into a party with culinary sensations and performances by many well known artists. Around 25 of Stockholm’s most exciting restaurants serve everything from the most traditional Swedish dishes to exotic creations from other parts of the world in the park during this too-short week. A Taste of Stockholm is also a chance for Stockholm to showcase our passion for locally grown produce, organic food and our desire to serve as a model for a sustainable lifestyle.
In addition to giving visitors a chance to sample the culinary delights on offer, for twenty-four years A Taste of Stockholm has also showcased the work of hundreds of artists in Kungsträdgården.
A Taste of Stockholm is one of the largest annual events in Sweden – which makes us responsible for protecting the environment during this event. Part of the 24 year history of the event has been to make our environmental impact as small as possible. In 2010 we were environmentally certified by the Swedish organisation Keep Sweden Tidy and all participating restaurants are required to serve at least one dish qualified for the Swedish organic KRAV label.
We also started the initiative Stockholm Green, a cooperative effort between Keep Sweden Tidy, The Nordic Ecolabel, KRAV and A Taste of Stockholm. In 2011 A Taste of Stockholm and Stockholm Green joined forces. We want to inspire, motivate and offer knowledge to make it easier for all of us to do the right thing for the environment, in other words – a sustainable lifestyle.
Initially, this festival was called Restaurangernas Dag (the Day of the Restaurants’), but in 2004 we changed the name to A Taste of Stockholm.
